How to create powerful intentions
Why do we so many of us, each year when December 31st rolls around, set New Year’s Resolutions, yet statistics show most resolutions are broken by February? Sound familiar? It’s not the quality of the resolution we’ve made that is the problem, the real problem is that we did not set a strong enough INTENTION behind our resolution.
I am going to walk you through the 5 simple steps you can follow to create intentions that are in alignment with your goals so finally you can make the dream of achieving your goals, a reality!
SO WHAT IS AN INTENTION EXACTLY?
An intention is a directed impulse of conscious awareness, everything that exists in the universe began first with an intention.
Simply put, intentions are heart-centred, emotionally-charged beliefs that guide our actions. Setting intentions helps to bring our beliefs, emotions, and actions into alignment.
Let’s use a cake as an example, a cake doesn’t exist unless the baker has the INTENTION to WANT to bake the cake first and then he takes congruent action steps as he follows his recipe to reach his goal of baking a delicious cake!
Intention setting is a way to live more congruently by taking purposeful action to create the life you want or as for our baker to be able to bake the cake you want!
When we set an intention, we are sending a powerful message to the universe about who we want to be, what we want to do and what we want to create in our life.
An intention can be as EXPANSIVE as you choose to make it. Such as;
· I intend to forgive others and myself.
· I intend to live a life of service to others.
· I intend to make mindfulness an important part of each day.
· I intend to see the goodness around me.
· I intend to invite relaxation into my life.
· I intend to grow and learn every day so I can teach others.
· I intend to love unconditionally.
· I intend to do something fun today.
HOW DO THEY WORK?
Our intuition is the key to setting intentions and making them work.
Integrating the combined power of our unconscious and conscious minds ensures that we channel all our resources—our true aligned self—when it comes to creating change in our lives.
We don’t have to wait until December each year to set new ALIGNED intentions. We can set intentions at any time. There is no right or wrong time or place to set them.
The 5 steps to create powerful intentions in your life.
1. FOCUS – what do you want to create in your life?
Start by focusing on these areas:
Things that will lead to the life you desire (e.g. a new job, a relationship, financial wealth)
Things that will impact your quality of life (e.g. having more fun, more connection with friends)
How you want your life to flow (e.g. with ease, joy & glory)
2. ENVISION – check in with your intuition.
Now imagine your new intention has come to fruition and check in with your intuition. Does your new intention feel light to you or heavy? If your new intention feels light to you then it is right for you. If your new intention feels heavy you need to go back and refocus on what you want to create in your life.
3. WRITE your intention down.
Instead of writing it down, you could say it out loud. Either way it increases the intentions power. Developing a habit or ritual around the process will increase its effectiveness for you, too.
You may choose to keep a journal where you write intentions, or having a box or drawer where you keep the papers you’ve written your intentions on or like me, you might like to use my Pathways to Align Thy Mind book to help set and keep your intentions.
Some of my clients also like to choose to keep their written intentions in a place where they see them regularly (e.g. wall, fridge door, bathroom mirror, wallet, etc.)
4. FRAME your intention in present tense and use positive language.
For example, you might say, “Today my intention is to invite peace and calm into my life” rather than “I will not be stressed out today”.
5. REPHASE - Make your intention adjustable and attainable.
If you keep with the same intention week after week, your mind will stop responding to it, so every few days slightly rephase your intention with new positive language. You could rephase the previous intention to “Today I will enjoy all calmness that exists in my life”.
My clients are always mind blown at how many resolutions and goals they achieve once they learn how to consciously align them with their intentions and how quickly they start see change they desire in their life.
But don’t take my word for it. Try these five steps for yourself and let me know if they work for you too!
